Happy Christmas - 2015

Hope all our readers / listeners make it through with Merle this year and especially that the 25th is a good one. To help the long, cold winter days hurry by, we've compiled our annual list of Christmas tunes right here, one for each day up to the 25th as usual...

As stocking fillers, we've also uploaded two mixcloud Christmas specials broadcast by Mark, more than a few years ago now...

Midnight Hour #30 - James Bond Special

We've been digging around and unearthed enough worthwhile covers of Bond movie tunes to fill an hour...almost.  There really aren't that many.

Featured Artist - Bill Withers: Ain't No Sunshine

Bill Withers was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame earlier this year.

We spent a very happy evening in August putting this list together as our own small tribute to a great artist.

And if you missed this brilliant documentary from a few years back its well worth a look.

Midnight Hour #29 - Book Club

A Bibliographical playlist, every one a page turner

Midnight Hour #28 - The Big Sleep

Tunes to help the night pass quickly, or in Joe's case the commute to work.

Featured Artist - Charlie Rich

Seems a deep cuts playlist is missing from Apple Music - so here's our contribution on Spotify. Not everything here is obscure, but it's all the work of a genius.

Midnight Hour #23 - Here Come The Judges

Midnight Hour #22

Nothing more to this post than a bunch of tunes we've been playing a good deal just lately, including a soul gem with great horn arrangement from Bettye Swann.

Midnight Hour #21 - Clouds

This set of tunes is our way of celebrating the start of our recent project to get as many God's Jukebox shows up on our mixcloud archive as possible. A task that is making us as happy as a Joe Bataan smile. Supported by social network contacts, we've added a good number, in no particular date order, and aim to get as full a set as possible. If you have any recordings of the show you'd like to offer up, then we'll always be glad to hear from you. Just use the email link at the bottom of the blog and let us know what you have.

Midnight Hour #20 - Angels

Robbie Williams "Angels" was the best song of the previous 25 years, according to the 2005 Brit Awards. As usual, the tunes we've included for you pre-date 1980 and so didn't make the cut to compete with Robbie. Shame, because if any of them had he would have lost out, not least of all to Hadda Brooks, who asks a very pertinent question towards the end of this selection.

Mixcloud - Jazzman Records

Mixcloud continues to provide great listening pleasure with a little searching.  We've recently dropped on to Jazzman Records and offer you all a sample of the great sets they upload regularly. Jean Knight, pictured, features in the first.
