Live Session - Police Dog Hogan

Apparently this band are "a high-energy and eclectic seven-piece, combining fiddle, banjo, mandolin, drums and guitars with knockout four-part harmonies in an exuberant fusing of country, pop, folk, and rocking urban bluegrass".  Well if all that's true then they fit right into this blog's brief. Featured Artists - The Gaylads (Part One)

This vocal trio from Jamaica began recording ska material in 1963, but their best work is a series of outstanding rocksteady tunes cut at the end of the 60s for Coxsone Dodd's Studio One and Sonia Pottinger's Gayfeet. Delano Stewart, BB Seaton and Maurice Roberts also backed other artists with their delicate and soulful harmonies and if you haven't heard them before then pull up a chair. OK, if you have, sit down anyway and enjoy this post and the others to follow this month.

Featured Album - Hard To Handle: Black America Sings Otis Redding (Part One)

Released last Autumn on Ace Records, this is another in a great series of CD's.  All are worth having, but this one is a real gem, with great covers of Otis penned songs by a stellar cast of soul greats including William Bell, Irma Thomas, Percy Sledge, James Carr, Clarence Carter, Aretha, Etta and more.

We've found some of the tunes on YouTube, so here are 3 to be going on with:
