Midnight Hour #12 - Heart To Heart

Yesterday we uploaded another (nearly) 60 minutes of tunes to warm the cockles of the coldest heart. Go here to hear, amongst others: Solomon Burke (pictured), The Coasters, Owen Gray, Lowell Fulson, Ray Price, Louis Armstrong and The Silvertone Singers. No hearts were broken or cheated on during the making of this cloudcast. Honestly. You know we wouldn't lie.

Live Session - Calexico

Joey Burns and John Convertino take their terrific band and beautiful songs out on the road across Europe from February 14th, after completing a series of dates back home.  We're heading off to Brighton on 19th, but wherever you are, make the effort to get there if you can.  A previous incarnation of the band played a session for God's Jukebox in 2008, and we have featured the band on here more than once. Here's why they remain a highlight for us:

Featured Artist - Otis Clay (Part One)

You can find background info on soul/blues singer Otis Clay here but really all you need to do is listen to the tunes on this post, and the others to follow during this month, to fully appreciate the grace and power of the man's singing. After the usual spell in Gospel groups, in the early 60's Clay found his feet as a secular artist with Chicago based One-derful! Records.  Later he cut tunes for the Atlantic label Cotillion at Muscle Shoals and Hi in Memphis and we'll bring you selected highlights from across all of these recordings. Here are 4 from the beginning of his career:

Featured Album - Rockabilly Cowboys (Part One)

Released towards the end of last year, this 10 CD set from Proper costs just £13 and contains a staggering 250 Rockabilly recordings, which comes out at little more than 5 pence each I reckon. And once you've got 'em you can keep 'em, so how is that not a good deal. Just to prove it, we're going to bring you a generous supply from the compilation between now and the end of the month, avoiding the more famous names in favour of those who may be slightly stranger to the jukebox...

To begin our posts for February, here's a tune from the Colombian salsa group, with the late Joe Arroyo singing lead.
