Featured Artists - The Clovers (Part One)

In his excellent book "Unsung Heroes of Rock'n'Roll", Nick Tosches describes this R&B vocal group (formed in Washington DC in 1947) as "the first of the traditionally borne vocal groups to make the leap across the Jordan to the chicken shack that transcends all knowing". Like so many others, The Clovers were able to make that leap thanks to Atlantic Records, where their first record hit big in 1951. For the next 5 years came a flurry of thrilling "chicken shack" tunes and we take great delight in bringing a fair few of these gems to you this month, as chronologically as we can get.
