Featured Artist - Rosco Gordon (Part One)

Part of a group of musicians known as the Beale Streeters who came to the fore in Memphis in the late 40's / early 50's, American pianist Rosco Gordon may not have found the fame afforded B.B. King or Bobby Bland, but he was an important influence on those who followed.  His distinctive piano playing, with its shuffle rhythm, helped shape Jamaican music in the early 60's and he was still playing and recording great music up until his death in 2002.

Featured Album - Twinkle Love Songs (Part One)

Released in 1987, this Twinkle Brothers album gathered together a few tunes from earlier records but also added previously unreleased covers.  Every track is a thrill, but for this and subsequent posts I've chosen one tune off the album, followed by the original recording.

For the first post, I've begun with a sweet cover of an even sweeter Miracles recording from 1973

Aural Massage - David Porter - Can't See You When I Want To (1965)

With Isaac Hayes, David Porter wrote some of the greatest recordings released on the Stax record label.  This tune was one of their earliest efforts as a song writing team and although not a massive hit (it was Porter's only solo release for Stax during the 60's) it is an enduring soul classic.
