Christmas with God's Eternal Jukebox

Same as last year, from tomorrow we bring a seasonal tune each day of December to the blog, in a clever sort of Advent Calendar kind of way.  And, if you can't get enough bells with the blues, there's more merry merry artists to be heard over at the Midnight Hour page, starting with a selection of sounds of the city and the country with Midnight Hour #8.

Featured Artist - Little Milton (Part One)

Not even remotely associated with the Oxfordshire village (they wish),  James Milton Campbell Jr. went under the name Little Milton in order to put some distance between father and son - after a day on a Greenville, Mississippi farm his father performed blues as Big Milton.

Zelig like, Little Milton was in the right place at the right time recording for the right record label - Sun, Meteor, Bobbin, Chess (Checker), Stax and Malaco all put out Milton. He may not have developed a uniquely distinguishing style but his recordings display artistry, technique and soul. The breadth and variety of his career makes seeking out his work a rewarding experience. Here are some early tunes.
