Featured Artist - Major Lance (Part One)

Major Lance (his real name) was a Chicago Soul / R&B singer who made great records in the 60's for Okeh, often written and produced by Curtis Mayfield.  The two had known each other since school, and the pairing of Mayfield's song writing talent and Lance's sweet vocal sound was productive. Only when Mayfield began to concentrate on his own recording career did the hits dry up for Lance, but he continued to record and he developed a cult following in the UK among Northern Soul fans in the 1970's.

Here we start with a group of early recordings, including his first hit from 1959 on Mercury, also written by Mayfield.  More to come later.
